The United States is urging cloud service providers like Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp. to proactively identify and investigate foreign clients engaged in developing artificial intelligence applications on their platforms.
This move is indicative of the expanding technological tensions between Washington and Beijing.
The proposal from the Biden administration, unveiled on Monday, mandates that these companies disclose the names and IP addresses of their foreign customers.
To comply with this requirement, entities such as Amazon, along with peers like Alphabet Inc.’s Google, must establish a mechanism to gather this information and report any potentially suspicious activities, as outlined in a draft rule released on Sunday.
